Salisbury University to showcase Tibetan culture to the community

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University is set to bring some vibrant culture to campus.

The institution will be welcoming Tibetan Monks from the renowned Drepung Loseling Institute to create a beautiful sand Mandal for the public to see.

Tibetan Monks use these Mandalas as a meditation tool for purification and healing. Retired director of cultural affairs, June Krell- Salgado, said with a fast pace of technology, people need to get back to the roots, and form personal relationships with one another, and what better way than through cultural art.

“You’re on click away from being across the globe, so it’s so important that we understand and share with each other, because if we don’t understand each other’s culture and be accepting, it’s going to be tough going forward,” Krell-Salgado said.

On Friday, the Monks will be hosting a ceremony at the Salisbury Park, where they will release the sand into the river.
