Reading Across America tour continues on the Eastern Shore, Officials take to local elementary schools

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – To continue the Reading Across America Tour on the Eastern Shore, officials from the Salisbury Police Department will be taking to local Elementary schools.

The mission is to get children excited about picking up a book, to learn to read it with an adult.

Chief of the Salisbury Police Department, David Meienschein, said developing a love for reading at a young age can set the youth up for success in the future, and reading aloud to children can show them that adults enjoy reading, too.

“Literacy is just so important and reading is so important, not only reading, but also listening to other people reading, to be able to do your jobs better, interactions better, communications with other folks in the community, so it’s really a foundation tool,” Chief Meienschein said.

Chief Meienschein will be reading at Pemberton Elementary school this week.
