Police: Woman robbed at knifepoint, Dover man arrested

DOVER, Del. – A Dover man is behind bars on charges stemming from a robbery late Tuesday night.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., officers were called to the Bally’s Hotel and Casino after it was reported that a purse had just been stolen at knifepoint. A witness called police saying that they saw the incident and were watching the suspect flee, providing offers with his location. Officers were then able to find the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Recardo Weatherspoon, hiding in the bushes.

Further investigation revealed that the victim was sitting in her vehicle when Weatherspoon allegedly got in through an unlocked door, pulled out a knife, and demanded that she turn over her purse. The victim complied and Weatherspoon fled.

Weatherspoon was held at SCI on a $42,000 cash bail on first degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited charges.
