OCFD reminds residents to check batteries in smoke alarms

Ocean City, MD- The Ocean City Fire Department is reminding residents that now is an ideal time to check the battery life on the smoke detectors in your home.

“A lot of folks now have the lithium ion batteries that alst 10 years so they might not need to change the battery but they should still check their smoke alarm.”

Says Ryan Whittington of the Ocean City Fire Department, who also mentioned that if the device is over 10 years old it is due for a replacement.

As they do eventually fail, regardless if they have a good battery in them.

Additionally it is wise to check those smoke alarms monthly, with a simple push of the test button on the device.
