Ocean City extends cannabis moratorium

OCEAN CITY, Md – The Ocean City council recently voted to extend the town’s moratorium on businesses that grow or sell cannabis.

Following the Cannabis Reform Act of 2023, the town quickly enacted a nine month moratorium that was set to expire this March. Ocean City officials say they are waiting on more refined guidelines from the Maryland legislature. City Manager Terry McGean said, “We don’t want to make any decisions and enact any legislation that could ultimately be in violation of state law.”
The current moratorium extends until September, but McGean noted that city officials are willing to extend it indefinitely until appropriate state guidelines have been handed down.
