MSP Berlin Barrack conducts unique distracted driving initiative
BERLIN, Md. – Members of the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack conducted a unique distracted driving initiative on Wednesday.
A trooper went undercover as a construction worker on Route 598 near Manklin Creek Road and on the side of the Harry W. Kelley Bridge heading into Ocean City, on the lookout for distracted drivers. We’re told that throughout the day, the trooper called out numerous violations to fellow troopers down the road, who were then able to intercept the drivers engaging in unsafe behavior.
Officials tell us over 100 drivers were pulled over during the course of the initiative, with the vast majority being ‘texting and driving’ violations.
“Our purpose is to stop unsafe driving behavior. No one wants to give or get a citation, but if receiving one causes a driver to change their ways it may just end up saving the life of someone’s loved one,” said Cpl. Lenz of the Maryland State Police
