Fatal vehicle fire under investigation in Wicomico Co.

QUANTICO, Md. – A vehicle blaze in Quantico left one person dead Wednesday morning.

At around 11:45 a.m., firefighters were called to a reported vehicle fire in the 23071 block of Nanticoke Road. Crews battled the blaze, involving a 2000 GMC Sonoma pick-up truck, for approximately 20 minutes. After the blaze was extinguished, crews discovered human remains inside the vehicle.

The Deputy State Fire Marshals were called to the scene to further investigate, as well as the Maryland State Police. The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Total damage has been estimated at $5,000.00. The human remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the exact cause of death and identification.
