Grant program supports Maryland specialty crop producers
MARYLAND – $400,000 is now available through the Maryland Department of Agriculture supporting their Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. Specialty crops include things like fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, and even Christmas trees.
The reimbursement program is funded by the UDSA and looks to bring awareness to the importance of those crops.
In past years eligible nonprofits, government agencies, and other organizations received grants ranging from $15,000-$140,000 based on their project’s impact on specialty crop producers. “The industries need assistance. It could be from promoting more fruits and veggies to even research,” Program Manager Karen Fedor said.
“We have vibrant agricultural communities within Maryland and we’re just trying to keep that flourishing so we can have people to stay on the farms and support their families. ”
The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 31st.
