UPDATE: Early morning crash claims life of Lewes woman

LEWES, Del. – A Lewes woman has died following an early morning crash.

Police say the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on John J. Williams Highway, just west of Mulberry Knoll Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that, for unknown reasons, a bicyclist entered the eastbound lane of John J. Williams Highway, directly into the path of a 6-wheel box truck, causing a collision.

The bicyclist, a 58-year-old Lewes woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 60-year-old Salisbury man, was not injured.
