Dover Senators Capture 2024 DIAA State Championship
NEWARK, Del. – The Dover Senators take down Salesianum 56-53 to win the school’s first ever DIAA Basketball State Championship. Dorell Little led the Senators in scoring with 31 points.
The Senators got off to a very slow start, only scoring six points in the first quarter and falling behind by as many as 11 in the first half. But the Dover players were able to make adjustments after the first quarter to cut the lead to four and eventually overtake Salesianum late in the ballgame.
Little and Denim Perkins combined for 47 points in total and scored all of Dover’s second half points!
After the game Perkins, Little and Dover Head Coach Stephen Wilson spoke about how important this win was for the city of Dover, the Dover faithful, and themselves.
“Man, I broke the curse! I’m proud of everybody. I know our community needed this, we needed this for sure,” Perkins said.
“It means a lot, it means a lot, the city celebrating, the guys, this is about the former players, this is about the all the guys before us. A lot of guys came before us, it’s for them. We always talk about the city, the district but I’m very happy for these kids right now man, nobody knows how hard we worked,” Wilson said.
“I started off slow, my teammates told me to keep shooting take my time, everything is gonna come. It means a lot. We made history, we’re the first ones to do it, it feels really good,” Little said.
