A manhunt is underway for a former Milford School District employee
MILFORD, Del.- Milford Police held a press conference Monday announcing that a manhunt is underway to locate a man who’s accused of harassing the Milford School District.
According to the Milford Police Department, the incident occurred on Thursday, March 7, around 1:20 p.m. when 59-year-old Thomas Caffrey went to the Milford School District’s office to drop off a concerning letter.
Officials who were at the school district’s office at the time told police that Caffrey appeared to be agitated when he dropped off the letter. Along with the letter, there was a district access keycard and a building key.
Police shared a copy of that letter where he called out the district – part of the letter read quote: “There are not enough police or national guard to stop him. You have been warned.”
The other part of the letter that Caffrey reportedly dropped off called the school district “dangerous” and threatened to go to the news media.
After reading the letter, school officials called the police and the district was placed on a low-level lockdown.
Shortly after being placed on lockdown, there was a suspect matching Caffrey’s description banging on a side door of Milford Central Academy, according to police. This resulted in a full lockdown at the Milford High School and the academy. Police later confirmed that the suspect at the door was not Caffrey.
Schools were closed on Friday and while classes resumed on Monday police still have not been able to locate Caffrey.
A warrant has now been issued for his arrest on four counts of harassment.
“Investigators continued to work tirelessly using all investigative measures to locate Caffrey but Caffrey continued to evade law enforcement,” explained Milford Police Chief Cecilia Ashe during the press conference. “We can release at this time that Caffrey is believed to be operating a gray in color 2012 Nissan Titan.”
Anyone with any information on Caffrey’s whereabouts is urged to call Milford Police at 302-422-8081.
