Maryland- State Comptroller Brooke Lierman announced Friday that the comptroller’s office will be waiving certain late payment penalties and interest for Maryland businesses through May 31st following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.
The elimination of late payment penalties will apply to business with the following tax types: employer withholding tax, sales and use tax, tobacco tax, motor fuel tax, admissions and amusement tax, tire fee, bay restoration fee, and transportation network fee.
The waiver will apply to all business between January 1st. 2024 and May 31st, 2024.
Those fees will be automatically waived for business who file prior to the date in May, and they look to help alleviate the financial burden these businesses may face caused by issues from the collapse of the bridge.
