Wicomico Co. man sentenced to 35 years for assault, child abuse
SALISBURY, Md. – A Wicomico County man has been sentenced to more than three decades behind bars for assault and child abuse.
We’re told on February 9, 2023, the victim told 38-year-old Brian Fitchett to leave her home following a verbal disagreement. Fitchett then allegedly strangled the victim, severely restricting her ability to breathe. The victim was able to pry his hands off of her neck and call her daughter, a minor, to help. When the minor walked in, Fitchett threw her into a windowsill and chased her down the stairs as she fled for help before biting the victim’s face, causing a permanent injury that required more than 30 stitches.
Fitchett was convicted earlier this year of first degree assault and second degree child abuse and was subsequently sentenced to a total of 35 years in prison.
