Two otters show off their day-to-day lives to community members in Pocomoke City
POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- Two otters, one habitat and a bond that’ll last a lifetime.
Otters Mac and Tuck live simple lives at the Delmarva Discovery Museum, but on Sunday, the two decided to debut their day-to-day routines to animal lovers.
“It’s a connection that they may not have with other animals,” said museum tour guide, Kathryn Motley.
Eating, sleeping and playing is what a typical day consists of for the duo, but Motley said it’s those mundane tasks that are important for the public to see, because it can give insight as to what is going on in the environment.
“They’re a keystone species, so they can tell you a lot about how the ecosystem is,” Motley said. “If there’s a lot of otters in the area, that means it’s super healthy. But if a lot of otters start going away, that means maybe there’s pollution, or not so many great things going on.”
And while Mac and Tuck will live out the rest of their days at the museum, tour guide, Kelly Seganish, said these animal lessons shouldn’t stop on Delmarva.
“It’s super important, wherever you live,” Seganish said. “I think it’s important to know the history what’s in your environment and to protect it.”
