The Brightside: Fur Baby Pet Resort

MILFORD, Del. – A full-service pet resort in Milford is striving for excellence when it comes to caring for four-legged furry friends. Fur Baby Pet Resort is an award-winning state-of-the-art facility hoping to enrich pet owners’ bonds with their beloved animals.

“I knew I wanted to make animals my career, and my passion,” says Fur Baby Pet Resort founder, Sherry Shupe. Shupe tells us, she’s been an animal lover her whole life, and 13 years ago, she left her nine-to-five corporate job to pursue her dream. “I wanted a safe place where I could take my pets and they would be filled with enrichment, not just someplace to put them into a cage where they sit and hang out for the entire time of my vacation or work day.”

Shupe couldn’t find a place like that for her dog so she created one. It’s a full-service pet resort that has offerings such as their doggie day-care, “Daycare, dogs can come from 7 am to 7 pm and play with like-sized, like play-style playmates, we have indoor and outdoor.” Shupe adds, “We evaluate them for their play style, their temperament, if they want to be outside running, we’ve got fast and big play groups for them. We also have slower-moving play groups for seniors that come and just want to relax in the sun on our decks.”

There’s also an overnight hotel for dogs, Shupe says they see guests 365 days a year, and during the day, they’re with their friends playing and at night they’re in their rooms.

A unique addition, is the spa and wellness center, offering treatments like mud baths, nail trims, hair cuts, and exclusive treatments, such as their Thera-Clean microbubble therapy, the only one on Delmarva. “It’s a skin and scalp treatment. Demodectic mange, dandruff, we’re able to cure hot spots, we’re able to alleviate seasonal allergies for dogs.”

Shupe tells us, these furry friends get specialty treatment. With additional upgrades such as nutritional and fun snacks, using ingredients like bone broth; Promoting safe human grade -high-quality ingredients. “We have a row of raw freezers, parents are now raw food-minded which is something a decade ago they weren’t.” Shupe adds, “We don’t do nylon, dogs shouldn’t be chewing on plastic, we don’t do rawhide, we don’t do things that are unnatural or indigestible. 51 So everything that we have in store is a safe place parents don’t even have to worry about having those options here.”

Along with hospital-grade cleaning techniques and team members who go through months of rigorous training certifications. She says her resort is setting the bar high for the domestic animal industry, which she hopes others embrace. “We’ve gone above and beyond but it’s really what I think everyone should be doing.” Shupe goes on to say, “You have a dream, you know you have standards that you want for your pets, and to have the community embrace that and say yes, we agree and we want this too, it’s been amazing.”

More importantly, Shupe hopes to give pet owners in Delmarva a piece of mind when others are caring for their furry friends. “Our job is to let them know that this is a safe space. We believe the best place for your pet is with you, and the next best place is with us.”

Fur Baby Pet Resort is open seven days a week for dogs, and six days a week for pet owners. To learn more about their offerings, or how you can be a part of their team, visit their website.
