Somerset County Public Schools to host Inaugural ‘Teacher Career Expo & School Showcase’

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md.- Somerset County Public Schools is taking a unique approach to filling vacancies and building up their applicant pool.

We’re told the county now has to rely on long-term substitutes in some cases, so they’re gearing up to host their first-ever Teacher Career Expo & School Showcase.

School officials said it’s an opportunity to give teacher candidates a little taste of what the county has to offer. Attendees are encouraged to bring their transcripts, resumes, and anything else that helps set them apart. “It will be very energetic. Each school will have their own table and we’re encouraging them to show their school pride,” SCPS’ Christina South said. “We’ll have support from our HR department and some of our instructional supervisors present as well. We also have a great teacher mentoring program. All of those are going to come together and to show candidates what we offer that sets us apart from other counties.”

All candidates will also be entered into a $50 Amazon gift card drawing.

The event is set for Wednesday, February 28th at Somerset County Technical High School from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m.
