SNOW HILL, Md. – An investigation is underway following an armed robbery on Wednesday.

Snow Hill Police officers were called to the 300 block of Purnell Street to meet with the victim, who reported that while they were walking down the street they were approached by two individuals in a truck who asked to speak with them. The driver of the truck reportedly got out of the vehicle and told the victim to hand over his belongings while displaying an edged weapon. The suspect then allegedly took a cell phone and money from the victim and fled from the area.

The victim was not injured.

Surveillance video and witness statements led police to identify the suspect, Azam Purnell. Purnell was taken into custody Thursday morning at Probation and Parole and charged with armed robbery, robbery, second degree assault, and theft under $1500. He was held without bail.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say more arrests are expected.
