FRANKFORD, Del. – A hit-and-run crash has led to numerous charges for a Selbyville man.

Police say they were called to Old Mill Bridge Road, north of Millers Neck Road in Frankford, just before 6 a.m. Saturday for a reported crash. When troopers arrived at the scene, they found an unoccupied and disabled gray Dodge Charger with temporary Delaware registration, on the shoulder with damage to its rear right side. Police say the trunk of the vehicle was open due to the crash, and several items were strewn in the road, including a backpack, pillow, and fireworks.

Troopers then received a report of a suspicious person in the area of Old Mill Bridge Road and Old Mill Pond Road. The trooper located an individual matching the description of the suspicious person leaving in a Nissan Sentra. A traffic stop was conducted, and it was ultimately determined that the front passenger, 18-year-old Aidan Cooper, was the driver of the Charger when it crashed.

Further investigation revealed that the Charger was traveling southbound on Old Mill Road in a manner not appropriate for the snowy and wet road, causing Cooper to lose control of the Charger, veer off the roadway, and hit a mailbox. The vehicle then hit a tree before stopping in a ditch on the shoulder of Old Mill Bridge Road.

The trooper observed multiple signs of impairment in Cooper, who reportedly refused to perform field tests. A search of the backpack led to the recovery of a handgun, three loaded magazines, a clear plastic bag containing approximately 0.06 grams of methamphetamine, several additional rounds of ammunition, four bottles of alcohol, THC gummies, and THC wax.

Cooper was held at SCI on a $26,405 secured bond on a list of charges, including DUI and underage possession/consumption of alcohol.
