Salisbury University hosts job fair, employers scout future employees

SALISBURY, Md. – Over 100 organizations came to Salisbury University to recruit students, with the intention of keeping qualified workers in their community.

Human Resources Director for the Town Of Berlin,  Kelsey Jensen said employers flock to the event every year, because they’re able to scout some of the best future employees.

“I think it is really important to stick over here and with the Eastern Shore,” Jensen said. “There’s a lot of Eastern Shore job opportunities today, and I think it’s important to have someone that knows the area and is familiar with the area.”

Event organizer, dr. Kimberly Fabbry-Greener, said putting different job opportunities on the students’ radar helps both the employee and the employer.

“Employers are looking for students to have both the knowledge that they learned in the classroom, and also experience to go with it,” Dr. Fabbry-Greener said. “If a student can get an internship or a part-time job, they’re there demonstrating that they’re taking the knowledge that they learned in the classroom and applying it to the problems and the tasks they’re being asked to do.”

One of those students on the hunt is Jayven Edland, who said starting out early in his job search is important, because he’ll be able to hit the ground running once he graduates college.

“It gives me that real-world experience for my career, so when I go into my field, my employer doesn’t always have to check on me and make sure that I’m doing what I’m doing, because I already know because I have that work experience,” Edland said.
