CAMBRIDGE, Md. – An investigation is underway following multiple vehicle thefts early Wednesday morning.

Shortly after midnight, officers responded to the 100 block of Baycraft Court for a report of suspicious subjects on a property. Video footage reportedly showed approximately five juveniles that were on the property. The victim opened the front door and reported seeing two of the subjects trying to break into their vehicle by pulling on the door handles. The victim yelled at the subjects, who then all fled on foot in different directions.

Officers canvassed the city, and just after 1:30 a.m., saw four vehicles speeding north in the 5200 block of Woods Road. The vehicles were identified as a light blue Chrysler Town and Country van, a green GMC Sierra truck, a white work van, and a dark colored Volvo. As the vehicles approached the traffic circle on Woods Road at Route 16, police say they split up. The officer followed the direction that the work van and Volvo traveled. The vehicles reportedly continued on Route 16 towards Route 50 before turning onto Chesapeake Street, increasing their speeds. Officers tried to stop both vehicles, but they fled. The Volvo passed the van and fled on Route 16 towards Church Creek, while officers continued pursuing the work van down Route 16 and through various streets before the vehicle finally stopped on Maces Lane at Washington Street. A 15-year-old male was arrested, and it was determined that the van was stolen from the 100 block of Oyster Catcher Court.

The juvenile was later released to a guardian and referred to the Department of Juvenile Services for motor vehicle theft, multiple traffic violations, and a curfew violation.

At around 5:40 a.m., officers responded to the 2600 block of Lance Drive for a reported vehicle theft, learning that two vehicles were stolen from the neighborhood, the light blue Chrysler Town and Country and the green GMC Sierra. Both vehicles were seen traveling with the white van earlier.

Just before 7:30 a.m., officers were called to the 200 block of Regulator Drive for a reported vehicle theft, which was determined to have been the dark colored Volvo. Surveillance video showed four subjects who had been in the area pulling on door handles.

At around 7:50 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Caribbean Avenue for a report that the green GMC Sierra was located.

Additionally, Cambridge PD officers reportedly took multiple calls for damages to vehicles and vehicles that had been gone through in multiple neighborhoods throughout the city. In all four cases, police say the keys were left inside the vehicles.

Police say additional arrests and charges are pending.
