New vending machine provides wellness on the go for Salisbury University students

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University students now have a new resource to help address medical needs.

The Student Health Services “Wellness to Go” vending machine project was made possible following Maryland lawmakers passing legislation that required all higher education institutions to provide 24/7 access to over-the counter contraception. Students can also receive a free appointment with SHS with a coupon.

In addition to that, there’s a QR code students can scan to get information on the other medications as well. Products sold includes condoms, pregnancy tests, and more.

SHS personnel tell us the goal was to increase access. “If they start not to feel good over the weekend, they can come and get some Dayquil, allergy medicine, and other wellness medication. If they’re still not getting better, they can come in and see a provider and we can investigate those symptoms further,” SHS Director Lindsey Parker said.

Student Health Services also tell us the cost for most items are set below retail pharmacy prices to keep them affordable for students.
