Man arrested on firearm, drug charges in Kent Co.
HARTLY, Del. – A Mardel man was arrested on felony gun charges following a traffic stop late Monday night in Kent County.
At around 10:45 p.m., law enforcement was reportedly patrolling the area of Hazlettville Road and Apple School Grove Road when they saw a vehicle with a registration violation. A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with the female driver and front seat passenger, identified as 27-year-old Miguel Hernandes-Tovar. Hernandes-Tovar reportedly told detectives that there were narcotics in the vehicle.
Detectives subsequently detained Hernandes-Tovar and found a handgun concealed in his pants pocket. A further search led police to find a 9mm handgun, a loaded 9mm handgun magazine, approximately .392 grams of heroin, approximately 28.82 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
The driver was charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and released.
Hernandes-Tovar was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited while in possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later released on an $8,200 unsecured bond.
