Good Morning Delmarva Discusses Random Acts of Kindness Week

SALISBURY, Md. – February 11 through the 17th marks random acts of kindness week, in which Kind SBY is at the forefront of spreading kindness to the community, and encouraging others to do the same.

Kind SBY, a Salisbury-based Kindness initiative works to effect positive change in schools, governments, businesses, and neighborhoods.

Throughout kindness week, Kind SBY commissioners create kindness within the community by distributing fresh cut flowers to local businesses and downtown visitors, donating art supplies to Elementary School students, donuts to the staff, and distributing gifts to Salisbury University students, faculty and staff, which they’ll be doing later Tuesday, February 13th.

“When I’m in the drive-thru in the morning and I’m getting a coffee or breakfast and someone in front of me pays for my meal, the joy that’s coming from that moment and the surprise from that moment is huge. So random acts of kindness week is all about that,” says Secretary of Kindness, Heather Brooks. She adds, “A handwritten note in the mail, a card to a coworker, candy, donuts, offering to take someone’s dog for a walk if they’re an elderly neighbor, grocery shopping for someone, babysitting for someone, it could be anything.”

Due to those types of kindness efforts, Maryland Governor Wes Moore recently proclaimed the 11th through the 17th as Kindness Week in Maryland! The whole week is also meant to encourage and inspire others to get involved. “Whether it be giving flowers and chocolates or notes, stress ball hearts, just uplifting someone’s day.” Brooks adds, “I think everyone loves a surprise, so giving that moment to everyone throughout Random Acts of Kindness week I think is huge.”

A little-known fact by some, but Salisbury was named the first official World Kindness City in the United States thanks to efforts by Kind SBY!
