Good Morning Delmarva discusses black women in World War II
47ABC – This Saturday, February 10th, the Milford Musuem is hosting a program in honor of black history month called “Black Women in World War II – Greatness Under Fire”.
Tom Summers, from the Milford Museum, stopped by Good Morning Delmarva to share more about the event and why this piece of history is so important.
Dante R. Brizill who is the author of a series of educational books on the lives of African Americans during World War II will be hosting the program.
There will also be a presentation to highlight key figures during that time period.
Tom tells us Brizill will be focusing on the role black women played in rural industries and as nurses.
They will be discussing the struggles and achievements of black women as they helped the U.S. in the war while simultaneously fighting segregation.
Tom says it’s a piece of history that needs to be highlighted and spoken about more.
