DoMore24 campaign one week out, supports Delaware nonprofits
DELAWARE – The annual Do More 24 online campaign is making a return, supporting upwards of 500 nonprofits across the state of Delaware. Donors have 24 hours to search and give to various causes for organizations making a difference. “It is a great opportunity for small to medium sized nonprofits to get the word out on their cause and mission in the community, and attract new donors,” The Shepherd’s Office Director Jim Martin said. “That $5 can turn into a $1,000 because of how the matching funds work. They also throw in hourly prizes.”
The Delaware Do More 24 campaign is sponsored by The United Way of Delaware and Spur Impacts.
The Shepherd’s Office in Georgetown provides various services for the local homeless population. Martin said funds raised will help with operation costs that have more than double. “We focus mainly on the empty stomachs in our community and want to make sure they’re filled up by nighttime. We get out here at 4:00 each afternoon and give out about 200-300 meals,” he said. “We also focus on trying to have a conversation with them too on how to find them a better life.”
Martin also told us those dollars will help support them through the summer months when their donations start to slow down.
Champions for Children’s Mental Health in Milford offers support services for families with children ages 3 to 17 with mental health or behavioral issues. Founder Barbara Messick told us that with those donations they’re looking to open a Family Resource and Training Center. “We can help them complete applications for their food benefits, Medicaid, SSI, or any resources families might need,” Messick said.
Messick added that with the community’s help, they’ll be one step closer to training families to become the next leaders in the mental health world. “We’ve done it. We’ve done it with our own children, and we know how hard it can be. We just want to be that person for someone else, so they don’t have to walk alone,” she said.
There’s $350,000 worth of prizes and matching funds available for participating nonprofits.
Organizers tell us that this is a trusted campaign and nonprofits have been verified.
The campaign starts next Thursday, March 7th at 6:00 p.m.
