Worcester County Health officials encourage community members to go red for women’s health

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Worcester County officials are encouraging the community to go red for Women’s health, in February.

The initiative is to help raise awareness around heart disease, which is the number one killer of both men and women in the US.

Crystal Bell of the Worcester County health department said families should consider going red with their pets.

She added studies have shown that pet ownership can actually help reduce the risk of developing heart disease.

“Pets increase our opportunity, of course, to get out and be as physically active as possible,” Bell said.  “As we know, regular physical activity can reduce blood pressure, cholesterol and stress levels.”
