Traffic stop leads to felony drug charges for Millsboro man
GEORGETOWN, Del. – A Millsboro man is behind bars on charges stemming from a traffic stop on Tuesday.
During the late afternoon hours, detectives on patrol in Georgetown saw a maroon Pontiac Grand Am traveling on South Bedford Street turn onto Dupont Boulevard without signaling. Detectives subsequently stopped the vehicle on Dupont Boulevard and made contact with the driver and a passenger. The driver was found to have an active warrant in Sussex County and was taken into custody, at which time police found drug paraphernalia under their leg.
Detectives then contacted the passenger, identified as 44-year-old Anthony Hitchens, who stepped out of the vehicle. A search led to the discovery of approximately 13.45 grams of suspected crack cocaine, approximately 2.85 grams of suspected powder cocaine, and approximately 149 bags of suspected heroin (1.043 grams).
Hitchens was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver Tier II, two counts of possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held at SCI on a $48,000 cash bond.
The 31-year-old driver was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended, and failure to signal. They were released on their own recognizance.
