Police investigate bomb threats at Mardela Middle & High School

MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. – Mardela Middle and High School were on high alert Wednesday after police say a series of bomb threats were made in an attempt to get a student out of school for the day.
According to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Wednesday, January 10 when Mardela Middle and High School experienced a series of bomb threats.
The administration promptly took action, and investigative efforts were initiated to identify and apprehend the suspect, according to police.
After a thorough investigation, which included identifying and tracking down VOIP/IP numbers and locations, the suspect was identified. Detectives were able to locate the suspect who police say lives in Somerset County, Maryland.
Detectives traveled to Crisfield where they met with the suspect who reportedly confessed to his involvement in the bomb threats.
Law enforcement say the suspect clarified that their intentions were not to cause harm but to get their friend, who attends Mardela Middle and High School, out of school for the day. The suspect’s cell phone was seized for further investigation pending a search and seizure warrant.
While the incident caused concern and disruption, police determined that the immediate risk to public safety was low and appropriate measures were taken to ensure the safety of the school students and faculty.
Charges are pending as detectives complete the necessary investigation and legal procedures.
