Out with the old in with the new: Easton receives funding for state-of-the-art medical center
MARYLAND. – Maryland Governor Wes Moore approved the necessary $100 million for a new regional medical center in Easton.
President and CEO of University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, Ken Kozel, said they’ve been working hard to bring this resource to Talbot County since 2006.
Kozel said the new building will broaden the spectrum of medical care they’ll provide in rural areas and will help better serve the counties across Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
“We spent the last 12 years really trying to prepare our community, for what I see as the final piece for our vision of creating an integrated healthcare system on the mid shore,” Kozel said.
While the project isn’t expected to be completed until 2028, medical staff are already looking forward to the new six floor, 147 bed, hospital, to better treat their patients in a new, modernized environment.
“They know that they provide great care, and our patients in our community deserve a modern, state-of-the-art facility,” Kozel said. “Hearing this news has been so rewarding for our team members, who have been enduring in this facility for a number of years.”
The new facility will replace the existing University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. It will be located in a central location for easier access.
