Orsted announces withdrawal of plans to build wind turbines off Md. coast

Offshore Wind Training

MARYLAND – Renewable Energy company Orsted has announced it will withdraw its plans to build wind turbines off the coast of Maryland.

In a release from the company, they say part of the decision comes as fulfilling the orders for their proposed projects were no longer commercially viable due to factors such as inflation, high interest rates, and supply chain constraints.

“We are grateful to Governor Moore, the Maryland Public Service Commission, and the State of Maryland for their steadfast partnership and support as we have worked diligently to develop Skipjack Wind under challenging economic circumstances,” said Vice President of Orsted David Hardy. “We fully support the state’s leadership as they pursue their ambitious offshore wind goal. We also thank the State of Delaware for its collaborative approach to supporting Skipjack Wind’s development.”
