Officials encourage people to apply for healthcare through ACA before deadline

DELMARVA – The deadline to apply for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act is fast approaching.

Highmark officials said you should try to find a licensed provider who can help you apply for health insurance through the ACA.

Some plans are as low as ten dollars. If you’ve applied in the past and didn’t qualify, Mike Pelino, with Highmark, said you should still consider applying again.

“You should consider going through the ACA, because typically the alternative is not being insured,” Pelino said. “If anything happens, you have no protection and you get a $100-200 hospital bill. The ACA is really for anybody that doesn’t have insurance through their employer.”

In Delaware, the deadline to apply is January 16th and in Maryland, it’s the 15th.
You can apply on Healthcare.gov.
