“I love to drive:” Perdue Farms associate celebrates milestone of four million driving miles
SALISBURY, Md. – “That’s my enjoyment is driving. I love to drive,” Timmons said.
76-year-old Willards native Robert Timmons’ love for hitting the road is now paying off in a big way. He’s now the second driver in Perdue Farms history to achieve four million accident-free driving miles. “I’ve went just about everywhere in the United States driving. That’s how I got my four million miles, driving a lot,” Timmons said.
Wednesday, Perdue Farms associates and colleagues came together to celebrate the milestone. He was presented with a plaque, ring, and a check for $15,000. “To put things into perspective, if you and I were to do that in an average year it would take a little over 285 years to achieve four million miles,” Chief Executive Officer Kevin McAdams said.
Drivers play a critical role in helping fulfill the company’s belief in responsible food and agriculture. They’re also right on the frontlines providing customers with a quality product. Over the years, officials said that task has faced challenges. “Other than 2020, we’ve seen nothing but increases in traffic, congestion, and delays. To be able to keep the attitude that Robert has every day is truly unique.”
After more than four decades behind the wheel for Perdue, Mr. Timmons who’s also known by his CB handle ‘Holly Trolly’, let us in on his secret to road safety. “As long as you pay attention to what you’re doing, and watching other people that’s how you get you four million miles,” Timmons said.
You may be wondering if he has another four million miles left in him. “As long as I can pass my DOT physical, then yes,” he said.
Timmons is part of more than 800 certified professional drivers with Perdue.
He also joins Alvin Smith as the company’s only four million safe-mile drivers.
