Honoring Harriet Tubman at Beacon of Hope Memorial in SBY

SALISBURY, Md. – Local leaders and community members met at the Beacon of hope memorial to honor a legendary Abolitionist.

The Mayor of Salisbury, youth advocates and Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes gathered in Downtown Salisbury to not only honor Harriet Tubman, but inspire the youth who may be going through difficult times.

Delegate Sample-Hughes honored Harriet Tubman and spoke to kids about her community engagement that makes a difference, just as the next generation can do today.

“Its difficult, but if they have their classmates beside them that understand the value of taking care of another person, just as Harriet did than you will have a greater appreciation for what the struggle is for your classmate, for your teammate, for your neighbor.”

The event also promoted the James M. Bennett food pantry which will be set up in the Art Space in Downtown Salisbury to accept any canned food donations from community members.
