Frozen pipes cause potential hazards for homes

Frozen Pipes

Salisbury, Md- It is a common risk that can be seen as the temperatures drop during the winter season.

This year is no different as the risk of frozen pipes in the home make their return once more.

When pipes freeze they can burst, causing borderline disaster situations in a home, and leading to repairs that can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

“Just imagine if your home was to flood not only the damage to your home the furniture in your home. your floors your cabinets — any carpeting. Anything that touches the floor could be essentially ruined.” Says owner of Hancock & Son Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning of Salisbury Leif Hancock.

Adding that there are steps tenants and homeowners can take to prevent frozen pipes in the home: make sure your home is kept at a minimum of 55 degrees, detaching any garden houses from spigots on the exterior of the home, and making sure that any vents on the properties foundation are close.

As the cold air can blow into that space, and cause those pipes to freeze.

Lastly Hancock stresses that if a pipe does freeze, do not attempt to thaw the pipe on your own with a hair dryer or hot water. Make sure you call a professional to resolve the issue.
