Former Md. State Delegate dies at 89
MARYLAND – Former Maryland Delegate Rudy Cane has passed away at the age of 89.
We’re told Cane passed away during the early morning hours of January 20th.
Cane was a Democrat and the first African American to represent the Eastern Shore for District 37A in the Maryland House of Delegates. He represented District 37A from January 1999 through January 2015, during which he served on numerous Task Forces, Subcommittees, and Commissions to improve our local communities.
Cane received a number of accolades, including Outstanding Work in Wicomico County from the NAACP in 1974, Casper R. Taylor Jr Founder’s Award granted by the House of Delegates in 2011, and Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Morgan State University in 2014, just to name a few.
Cane was also a former chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland.
