Delaware’s 2025 Fiscal Year plans with six billion dollar budget

Del. – Delaware Governor John Carney presented his plans for the 2025 Fiscal Year Budget Thursday afternoon with a focus on four main categories, with several billion dollars to spend for the state.

“Six billion dollar operating budget,” Gov. Carney said.

An exact total of just over $6.07 billion, Governor John Carney presenting his plans to balance the state’s budget with a focus on four main areas, the first being strengthening the First State’s economy.

“If your economy is not creating jobs, you are not going to have the revenue you need for all of these priorities we have because that’s what drives it is that growing economy.”

Governor Carney says $943 million will go to the bond and capital improvements act, which will fund $600 million in state capital projects and $300 million towards transportation efforts.

Along with that, the Governor feels the following two areas require the most funding in this year’s budget.

“Investing in our public schools, clearly our biggest part of the budget and our salary piece of it.”

“Supporting families with childcare and Medicare, a big priority of ours as you can see.”

$2.1 billion dollars will be the total budget for K-12 public education, the largest investment this year by the state, followed by another $2 billion for state employees.

Governor Carney said significant investments have been made towards environmental protection and addressing climate change.

Environmental efforts were also a focus in the Governor’s budget.

Director of the Office of Management and Budget Cerron Cade stressed the importance of that funding

“When it comes to protecting our natural resources for future generations these resources do include the clean water trust fund investments and also $4 million for electric vehicle infrastructure.”
