Delaware, Worcester Co. prep roads ahead of winter weather
DELMARVA. – Counties across Delmarva are preparing for the potential storms ahead.
Director of Worcester County public works, Dallas Baker, said the county’s fleet of vehicles are gearing up to hit the roads.
“We have 21 vehicles with plow on [the roads],” Baker said. “We have five brine routes that we take, so that’s 27 roads are on our route list.”
Baker stressed the importance of making sure they’re prepared to respond to whatever the weather may bring.
“[We want] to make sure everybody gets to where they’re going safely,” Baker said. “The kids get on the bus and get to school safe, that folks make it to their work safely, and just try to do the responsible thing.”
Meanwhile in Delaware, DelDOT director of community relations C.R. McLeod, said they typically hit the roads 24 hours prior, to be able to weather the storm.
“This pretreating allows the surface to really be warmer when the snow and precipitation starts to fall,” McLeod said. “Getting that brine solution down is just part of our plan to attack the storms.”
While the roads may be prepped ahead of the weather, McLeod said that doesn’t always mean that it’s safe to brave the hazardous conditions.
“If you don’t have to be out, especially in the height of a storm, it’s best to stay home and let us take care of the roads,” McLeod said.
