Del. officials announce record low violent crime rates statewide
DELAWARE – Attorney General Kathy Jennings and Delaware law enforcement leaders announced on Monday that the state’s violent crime rates are at a record low.
AG Jennings said that law enforcement’s focus on violent criminals and gun offenders has driven rates to their lowest point since the State began tracking the statistic, a 40% decline since 2008.
The following positive trends in violent crime rates statewide were announced on Monday:
- Delaware violent crime rates have reached their lowest record level
- Gun violence rates have declined by 20% since spiking during the pandemic
- Shootings in Dover have declined by 23% since the pandemic
- Delaware’s prison population has fallen by roughly 25% since 2019, with the recidivism rate declining by 60%
- DOJ continues to maintain a conviction rate of 80% or more against gun offenders
