DE Road Conditions

DELAWARE – In the first state, according to DelDOT, road conditions are on the up and up amid flooding concerns.

Officials say the expected extensive flooding was at a minimum in Sussex and Kent county. Although there were no major road closures, there were several down trees in parts of the state, which DelDOT crews have been actively cleaning throughout the night and into the daytime hours.

However, with the high winds and the saturated ground, C.R. McLeod, Director of Community Relations with DelDOT reminds drivers to stay vigilant, especially as they prepare for the next batch of rainfall. “It’s not out of the realm of possibility that additional trees could come down. We just encourage everyone to continue to drive cautiously and be aware that there still could be some gusty winds today and be prepared for that while you’re out and about,” says McLeod.

McLeod goes on to say, “We’ve been routinely cleaning out storm drains, keeping all of our chainsaws and wood chipping equipment in ready-to-go shape because it’s been getting a lot of use. Our people have been working extremely hard to get these issues addressed as quickly as possible.”
