Crisfield High School student arrested for threat of mass violence
SOMERSET CO., Md. – A juvenile has been charged following an incident at Crisfield High School Tuesday morning.
At around 7:20 a.m., a Crisfield High School official informed the School Resource Deputy that they had received several student reports of a specific student threatening violence and allegedly in possession of a gun on the school bus.
Officials tried to locate the student on campus but quickly determined that the student was not on the school’s campus. After interviewing potential witnesses, detectives found the suspect in the company of a parent at their home. Investigators gathered sufficient evidence at the school and the student’s home to arrest the student for threat of mass violence and threat of arson.
The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Department of Juvenile Justice hold the suspect, however, that request was denied. The suspect was subsequently released back into the custody of a parent.
Investigators were not able to find evidence suggesting that the student had a weapon on school property during this incident, however, it was reported that the same student was referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice in October 2019 on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon on school property, carrying a handgun on person, disturb a school operation, and resisting arrest.
