LANDOVER, Md. – After four mostly mediocre seasons, the Washington Commanders have fired head coach Ron Rivera. He leaves the Commanders with a 26-40-1 overall record.

Rivera’s tenure began with an improbable division title after a 7-9 season. The team would lose to the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by Tom Brady, in the Wild Card round.

The next three seasons saw diminishing returns.

A 7-10 mark in 2021, followed by an 8-8-1 record in 2022, concluding with a dismal 4-13 finish in 2023.

Washington enters the offseason with new ownership, a vacancy at head coach, with the number 2 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.
