Comic book lovers gather at Burnish Beer Co. for second annual Beer-Con

SALISBURY, Md. – Burnish Beer Co. has beers, but this Sunday, they also had comics.

The establishment hosted its second annual beer-con, where folks enjoyed their favorite drinks and picked up a new read.

“I hope people find some art that they love; I hope they find some comics to read and collect, but mostly read,” said comic-enthusiast, James Dufendach.

Dufendach said beer-con is the perfect way to get comic book lovers from across Delmarva, together.

“I think it’s cool, seeing more nerd centered things in spaces where you don’t usually see those things,” Dufendach said. “It sort of opens it up to people who don’t see it on a regular basis, and people get to find new, fun things that they’re just not used to.”

With a history of reading comic books herself, event organizer, Brenna Mills, looks forward to the event, to see the younger generation indulge in some of the same comics that she did as a child.

“I grew up in a comic book family, and then I married a man who loves comic books, too, so it’s a no brainer,” Mills said.

“We just love having all of the local artists come out and supporting them, because it’s really hard, especially in the winter, to find anything to do, so it’s fun,” Mills added.

And for those who say comic books are a dying medium.

“They’ve been calling it that since the 80s and it gets proven wrong, time and time again,” Dufendach said. “I think they’re healthier than they’ve ever been.”
