ASMFC adds regulations to commercial, recreational fishing, local fisherman pushes back

DELMARVA. – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission implemented some new regulations.

At Wednesday’s meeting, members of the commission declared a one-fish bag limit for Atlantic striped bass, for recreational and commercial fishermen.

Chairman of the Delmarva Fisheries Association, Captain Robert Newberry, said the change is going to have a tremendous impact on charter fishermen.

“The adverse effect is going to be put on the tourism and charter boat industry, and they’re basically looking at a 68% cut in their ability to fish,” Captain Newberry said.

The new implementation will go into effect May 1, 2024.
