Winter safety: heating your home and keeping it safe
DELMARVA. – As temperatures are declining, you may be reaching for heaters to help stay warm.
Easton Volunteer Fire Department chief, Sonny Jones, said you should keep a close eye on them, to prevent a fire.
Reading the owner’s manual before cranking it up and keeping it out of small, confined spaces are small steps that you can take. But there are even more tips to follow.
“We recommend that you keep space heaters a distance away from anything that can combust, due to the heat produced from the space heater,” Chief Jones said. “Make sure that the heater is not left unattended, where children can come in contact and knock them over.”
