Train lovers gather at Delmarva Discovery Museum for annual Santa’s Train Wonderland
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Santa’s Train Wonderland, back in Pocomoke City for year five.
“It’s the most amazing thing– surprising thing! It’s a wonderful Christmas surprise,” said eventgoer, Peg Cook.
It’s the support from the community that keeps the tradition alive.
Executive director of the Delmarva Discovery Museum, Christy Gordon, said year after year, people look forward to seeing the new trains chugging on the tracks.
“It’s gotten to be an event that everybody looks forward to,” Gordon said. “We try to do something different every year, so you’re not looking at the same thing each time, and it turns out prettier every year.”
It took a lot of manpower and time to make the display come to life. there are over 500 moving parts to it and Gordon said you have to have an attention to detail to make sure that every piece fits together perfectly.
“It takes everyone three weeks to get everything set up the way that we want it,” Gordon said. “It takes about four [people] and they put each piece one at a time. They do a great job.”
The intricate details, replicating the city of Pocomoke,
that Cook wasn’t expecting to see when she walked in.
“I just expected just a couple of trains going around a track, but my goodness, it’s everything!” Cook said.
“There’s a little thing where the kids are taking a photo with Santa Claus, that little, tiny piece,” Cook added.
