Suspect arrested in connection to Dorchester Co. hospital shooting, escape

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Police have made an arrest in connection to an escape from a Dorchester County hospital earlier this year.

As a result of the investigation by the Cambridge Police Department and the Rockville Police Department, an arrest warrant was obtained for 19-year-old Israel Labastida Jr. A search and seizure warrant was executed on Tuesday at a residence on Trumpeter Court in Glen Burnie, leading to the seizure of several items including a loaded 9mm handgun.

Labastida was arrested and held without bond pending trial. He has been charged with conspiracy to escape in the first degree, seven counts of first degree assault, seven counts of second degree assault, seven counts of reckless endangerment, handgun on person, loaded handgun on person, firearm use/felony – violent crime, and malicious destruction of property. Charges are still pending in Rockville for the items seized from the residence.
