Maryland’s DNR purchases 20 acres of land for preservation
CHESAPEAKE STATE FOREST, Md. – Maryland’s Department on Natural Resources purchased twenty acres of land in the Chesapeake State Forest for preservation of the Nanticoke Watershed.
Samuel Glick has been a regular at the Chesapeake State Forest and he believes “we are losing that fast.”
“Yeah, we are losing too much land too quickly.”
The Chesapeake State Forest currently consists of more than 75,000 acres of land that overlaps into more than one state, according to Acting Forest Manager Alexander Clark.
“Our Chesapeake forest lands are within the Nanticoke watershed and we have properties from Virginia all the way up to Easton, Maryland.”
The Maryland department of natural resources says watershed protection is one of their main goals, but they’re also focused on other sustainable activities according to Clark.
“For watershed protection, for forest resource protection and conservation and lastly public recreational opportunities, such as hunting, hiking and biking.”
Glick is a hunter who has been coming to the Chesapeake State Forest for more than twelve years and thinks preservation of the watershed is essential.
“We do not have the availability to walk a couple hundred Acres and not see another person,” Glick said. “I believe that is very important and that is one thing that brings me down here occasionally.”
