Man seriously injured in Eden hit-and-run, police investigating
EDEN, Md. – A hit-and-run crash left a man seriously injured Monday evening in Eden.
Police say the accident happened just after 8 p.m., in the area of S. Upper Ferry Road and Siloam Road. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim, identified as Aaron Douglas III, suffering from life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle. Douglas was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore where he remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle had left the scene, but were able to provide police with a description. A short time later, the Princess Anne Police Department located a potential suspect vehicle and seized it, pending crime scene analysis.
Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis tells 47ABC the driver of the vehicle was not the suspect in the crash and told officers they were taking it to a repair shop after “striking a dear.”
Lewis tells 47ABC the vehicle showed signs of striking a pedestrian, and interviews with multiple witnesses as well as others who he says were in the car, identified as a Buick sedan at the time of impact allowed them to identify a prime suspect.
That suspect had their blood sampled for a toxicology report and was released pending charges in the case.
Lewis tells 47ABC the victim and a woman were walking on the side of the road, with flashlights to illuminate themselves when the car crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck Douglas.
“The victim was way out of harm’s way or should have been. Had it not been for the suspect, not only crossing the centerline but going on the opposite side of the road and striking the victim from behind. So clearly the suspect was on the complete opposite side of the roadway when the victim was struck,” he said.
That female suspect had their blood sampled for a toxicology report and was released pending charges in the case according to Lewis.
