Governors Challenge Day 3 Recap

ST. JOHN’S CATHOLIC PREP 64, SALISBURY SCHOOL 60

Tyler Ball scored 32 points on 30 shots from the field. Ball also corralled 10 rebounds and stole the ball 7 times.  Pierce Vasquez shot 9/16 from the field for 21 points.

SUSSEX TECH 68, WIHI 40

Sussex Tech was led by Kyle Thompson’s 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Isaiah Ayers filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. The Ravens took advantage of WiHi turnovers, forcing 27 in all. The Tribe had no answer in the post as the Ravens outscored WiHi in the paint, 44-16. Sussex Tech wins both Governors Challenge games, and are 5-2 on the season.

SEAFORD 76, POCOMOKE 47

Seaford build a double-digit lead in the final minute of the first half and rode that momentum to a 76-47 victory over Pocomoke in the Boys Shore Showcase. Junior guard Jordan Smith with 27 points in the Seaford victory at the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center. Seaford moves to 5-0 on the season and faces WiHi Saturday to conclude the 2023 Governors Challenge.

SMYRNA 54, EASTON 49

Senior guard Obi Coleman led his Eagles to the victory, scoring 17 points and gathering 6 rebounds. He also stole the ball 4 times and collecting 2 blocks. Marine Kilgore dropped 14 points with 3 steals in 21 minutes. Smyrna won the turnover battle, 23-14, while outscoring the Warriors in the paint, 24-18. Marshall Bailey led Easton with 17 points with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.

WALKERSVILLE 41, KENT ISLAND 36

Kent Island was led by Sydney Riska’s 14 points. The junior forward also brought in 7 rebounds.

PARKSIDE 54, SUSSEX TECH 32

Diamond Dixon led the way for the Lady Rams with 20 points. The senior guard had six steals on the defensive end. Zion Oge made 8 of 9 field goal attempts for 16 points with 9 rebounds. Parkside dominated in the paint, outscoring Sussex Tech, 42-16. The Rams out-rebounded the Ravens, 54-32, and held Sussex Tech to 22.6-percent from the field.

SEAFORD 48, BENNETT 34

The Lady Blue Jays outscored Bennett, 31-13, in the second half. Amira Tingle collected a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds. Seaford collected 17 steals for the game, including 6 for Kinyra Cornish-Baine, 5 for Tingle, and 4 for Jordyn Evans.

DOVER 50, WIHI 35

Sara Benson collected a double-double for Dover in the Lady Senators win over WiHi. Benson had 14 points and 13 rebounds, along with 5 blocks. Gabrielle Corbin and Se’Lah Foreman led WiHi with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

DECATUR 53, LAUREL 12

Decatur girls basketball with a dominant showing Wednesday morning. Joplin Tyre scored 16 points to lead the way for the Seahawks, while Allison Swift and Maliyah Manuel scored 12 each.
