Good Morning Delmarva discusses the 2023 Hoophall East
47ABC – Slam Dunk to the Beach has been around for almost a decade and continues to bring an influx of excited sports fans to Sussex County.
Their basketball showcase called the 2023 Hoophall East will go on from December 26th through the 29th.
Dr. Matthew Robinson, Chairman for the Hoophall East, says they have some exceptional teams competing this year with talented players.
They will have a nationally ranked team from Virgina with two Duke commits and a Kansas commit playing on December 29th.
There will also be teams from Missouri and North Carolina.
Matthew says that the community gets to see a level of basketball, you can’t see year-round, which is why it brings so much foot traffic to Sussex County.
He says their goal when setting up the games is to appease the fans.
70% of their fans come from the local area and rave about the opportunity to see elite teams on their home turf, so they try to have at least one nationally ranked team or player competing each game.
He tells us the streaming via social media also garners a lot of attention to the area. They got almost a million views when two top rank players played in a previous showcase.
Robinson says what makes their tournament so different is that they support the teams coming in. There is no registration fee, plus their travel and lodging.
Matthew says none of this would be possible without the Delmarva sponsors who support them.
Some of those sponsors include the Sussex County Council and Bayhealth.
